A testimony of what happened at HOTS the other day…. The basic premise of the SSE is that when people experience the works of Jesus, they are far more inclined to accept him as Lord and Saviour. This seems to be the biblical model. When Lazarus died, Jesus was glad he was not there “so that you [the disciples] may believe”. (Jn 11:15). Then in verse 41,42 he says, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” This is now a general crowd standing around and it is clear he wants the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead to be an aid to their believing he is who he says he is. Signs and Wonder are for a reason – they are visible signs of the reality of the invisible God and help people to put their trust in him. This is what happened at HOTS the other day…
I’m still stunned by what happened at HOTS on Saturday , especially with the 2 salvations. I’ll try and keep it as succinct as possible
K asked me to go and pray with a man and his girlfriend who were sat in the fire exit of Marks & Spencer. He (maybe her) are sofa surfers, of no fixed abode. We find out later he funds his drug and alcohol habits through shoplifting.
He asks us for prayer for accommodation as he “needs all the help he can get” so we pray and ask God to provide a place to live.
He’s not sure if there is a God so I say something like “let’s ask Jesus to show how much he loves you by touching you with his presence and we’ll take it from there”. We lay hands on him and I pray that type of prayer, Jesus please touch him. As we are doing this the evangelist in me rises up and I pray “we break the power of your addiction to alcohol and drugs” and declare that his life will get better and he will know restoration. Nothing much seems to be happening but then he says “this is bleeping amazing” (I’ll let you guess what “bleeping” actually was ) “I feel 3 stone lighter and feel this warmth inside” .
I say “now you have experienced his love would you like to ask Jesus into your life”……he says “yes” and I lead him through a prayer asking Jesus to come in to his life.
He says to his girlfriend “you have to do this” so we just offer to pray first and basically go through the same thing again “Jesus please touch her and show how much you love her”.
She says she feels a warmth inside and then starts to shake. “Would you like Jesus to come in to your life?” “Yes”.
He asks for a bible, we don’t have one with us. A lady in the team later hands him hers. About 45 minutes after this happens, she is still shaking and says she can’t stop smiling and he says that he hasn’t had a drink in over an hour , which is amazing for him. He has a big grin on his face. I ask him if he wants to put down the wine now he says “let’s not rush this”.
There was rejoicing in heaven over 2 broken people , who asked Jesus to be their saviour in a fire exit outside a shop
“it is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance”
Our God showed how much he loves people the world may not give a second glance towards.
Please pray for these guys. Jesus powerfully touched them.
