The third in our series of testimonies from the 2013/14 SSE students.
One Saturday when we were down in Reading, we spotted a lady sitting near where we were hanging out with our banner. I went over to her and asked if she’d like prayer for anything. She said she didn’t really feel that God could help her. I felt I should sit down and start a conversation with her, so I did. We chatted for about an hour.
She began to tell me about her life. She’d been in prison, and struggled with alcohol and drugs. She was drinking vodka as we were talking. In the middle of our time out on the streets, we always gather to share stories and pray. When I got up to go and join that, the lady said ‘Don’t leave until you’ve prayed for me!’
After our group prayer, I went back to where she was sitting and Steve O came with me. Together, we prayed for her. She had a bad back, so we prayed for that. My hand was shaking (with the Holy Spirit) as we prayed, and afterwards she said the pain was gone. Then Steve asked her if she’d like to invite Jesus into her life. She said that she did, so we led her in a prayer. I never thought I would do something like that!
I was healed myself in class one week. I had an angry infection in a hair follicle. I had one once before, and went on for years. I had three operations on it before it finally went away. This one was getting bigger and bigger, and I was at the point where I knew I should see the GP. It was a lump under the skin, about the size of a Malteser, like an enormous spot. Sue prayed for me, and it was clear the Holy Spirit was on her strongly as she prayed. I didn’t feel anything particular. Over the next few days, the lump got smaller and smaller. After one week, it was the size of pinhead, and during the following week, it went away altogether. It’s not come back.
