Often on the streets, and in our own lives, we hear “I believe God is everywhere” or “I’m an agnostic” or “God seems very distant”. So many of us long for a personal experience of God which brings a knowledge and peace which no preaching can do, no matter how great the preaching is.
For, when God is present and personal all of our barriers are removed and we experience breakthrough in our lives. These breakthroughs may come in the form of freedom from addiction or freedom from thought patterns but wherever there is breakthrough there is freedom. Our God is not a distant God who stands back watching us struggle through life but He is one that cares deeply and intervenes. He intervened 2000 years ago paving the way for us to have relationship with Him and intervenes in our lives on our regular basis.
In the video two people allowed our HOTS team to pray for them on the streets and they experienced the personal presence of God. They took the risk and the step in allowing people to pray; perhaps they trusted something would happen or perhaps they had nothing to lose. But as they took the step towards God allowing him bring breakthrough suddenly God was not just “somewhere” but was personally present and intervening. Softening their hearts and bringing a sense of peace.
Do we need to take the same risk as the men did? Do we have areas in our lives where we need freedom? Where we need God to intervene? Then we need to take the step of allowing him to do so for as we draw near to God He draws near to us (James 4:8)
